Need some extra cash? Grants and scholarships are a great way to pursue dreams that might seem a little out of reach financially. You might need a grant or scholarship for your education, to follow your career, or even to travel the world for community aid.
Scholarships and grants are types of assistance (sometimes financial but not always) awarded to a person to help them to do things they wouldn’t usually be able to do due to lack of funding. It’s just a matter of finding a grant or scholarship that suits you and your needs.
Because every grant is different, there will be different requirements for each application. It’s important to get a copy of the grant guidelines to make sure you’re eligible and to know what criteria your application must address and when you have to submit it.
An important thing to keep in mind is that grant and scholarship selection committees will be looking for evidence that you can do what it proposes.
Some of the different grants available nationally:
• Future Leaders Awards – The Future Leaders Awards recognise and reward young Australians who have shown strong leadership and potential. There are other Awards available here including creative writing and photography.

• Indent- Indent encourages you to get a crew of your friends together in NSW and come up with a concept for a drug and alcohol-free, all-ages music event. If successful, they’ll give you $2,500 to help you realise that vision.

• The Walter and Eliza Hall Trust – The WaEH Trust provides financial assistance to help you out with anything you might need if you are in a crisis situation based on a last resort situation.

• The CREATE Your Future Grant – This scheme will award-successful applications by clubCREATE members aged 15 – 25 years with a statutory care experience. A hard copy and online application form will be available HERE from the 4th March 2022. For more information email CYFgrants@create.org.au.
South Australia
Dame Roma Mitchell Grants provide opportunities for eligible young people 29 years and younger and who are or have been, under the guardianship of the Chief Executive or Minister for Child Protection in South Australia for at least one full year to, achieve personal goals, contribute to health and wellbeing and provide developmental opportunities. There are two funding rounds each year, in January/February and August/September. For more information click HERE.

Northern Territory
You may be eligible for a higher education scholarship of $5,000 per year if you are a recent year 12 graduate in the Northern Territory (NT) enrolled in your first degree. Applications for 2021 scholarships are open and close on 5 March 2021.
Western Australia
The annual Department of Communities Perth Airport Achiever Awards provides financial assistance and encouragement to young people aged 15 to 25 years who have been in care and are continuing with their further education or training.
Queensland
The Smith Family has created the Care2Achieve Scholarship for young women leaving care who are planning to study at University or TAFE in Queensland. Check them out online to find out more.
Youth Housing and Reintegration Service (YHARS) is a service for young people aged 16 to 21 who are leaving or have left, the care of Child Safety Services. Financial assistance can be used to pay for things that are required to live independently, for example getting a licence, buying furniture, paying for a training course or work licence, or buying a computer for study purposes.
